The dashboard shows a summary of your invoices, your cash flow, your profit, and your expenses.

![Dashboard for This year with the four invoice cards, the Cashflow chart, the Profit and Loss chart, and the Top expenses chart with Total spending: ₹ 4,54,537.00 below its title.](/files/books-docs-dashboard-1-overview-v5.png)

To open it, click **Dashboard** in the sidebar. On a phone, tap **Dashboard** in the bottom tabs.

The dashboard has four invoice cards at the top. Below them are the **Cashflow** chart, the **Profit and Loss** chart, and the **Top expenses** chart.

You see only the cards for the invoices that you can read. Only a **Books Manager** or a **System Manager** sees the charts. See [Roles and Permissions](/books/roles-and-permissions).

## Period

All the sections use the same period. To change it, select a period in the page header. On a phone, tap the period button above the cards, and then tap a period.

Each period ends today:

| Period | Starts On |
| --- | --- |
| **This year** | The first day of the month 11 months before the current month. This is the default. |
| **This quarter** | The first day of the month 2 months before the current month |
| **This month** | The first day of the current month |
| **Year to date** | The first day of the current fiscal year. See [Fiscal Year](/books/settings#fiscal-year). |

For example, on 2 October 2026, **This year** starts on 1 November 2025.

## Invoice Cards

| Card | Shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Paid sales** | The amount that customers paid on the sales invoices of the period |
| **Unpaid sales** | The amount that customers must still pay on these invoices |
| **Paid purchases** | The amount that you paid on the purchase invoices of the period |
| **Unpaid purchases** | The amount that you must still pay on these invoices |

The cards use only the submitted invoices with an invoice date in the period. A partly paid invoice adds its paid part to the paid card, and the remaining amount to the unpaid card. Returns have negative amounts, so they decrease the amounts.

To see the invoices of a card, click the arrow button on the card.

## Charts

| Chart | Shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Cashflow** | The **Inflow** and the **Outflow** of each month, for all the accounts with the account type **Cash** or **Bank** |
| **Profit and Loss** | The income minus the expenses of each month. A month with a loss shows as a **Loss** bar below the zero line. |
| **Top expenses** | The five expense accounts with the highest amounts in the period. If more accounts have an amount, their total shows as one **Others** slice. The center shows a short total. The full **Total spending** shows under the chart title. |

To see the amounts of a month in the **Cashflow** or the **Profit and Loss** chart, move the pointer over the month. On a phone, tap the month. For the full statement, see [Profit and Loss Statement](/books/profit-and-loss-statement).
