Share documents in a message

You can send any document from any Frappe app on your site in a message. The document shows as a card with its main details, so people can see it without leaving the chat.

Attach a document

  1. In the message box, click the document button.
  2. Under Document Type, pick the type of document.
  3. Under Document, pick the document.
  4. Click Attach.
  5. Type a message if you like, then press Enter to send.

The Attach document from other apps dialog

Before you send, the document shows above the message box. Point to it to see its details. Click the bin to remove it.

A document attached to a message before it is sent

You can attach one document to each message. If you attach another one, it replaces the first. You can send files with the same message.

The document card

The card shows the type of document, its ID, its title and some of its fields. Click the title to open the document in its app.

The buttons at the top right of the card:

Button What it does
Copy link Copies a link to the document.
Print Opens a print preview of the document.
Workflow Shows the workflow actions you can take on the document. Only shows for documents that have a workflow. See Approve documents from the chat.

Click the ID next to the document type to copy the ID.

Each person sees the card only if they have permission to read the document. Anyone else sees the document type and ID, without the details.

An admin chooses which fields the card shows. See Document previews.

  1. On the card, click the print button.
  2. Pick a Print format, a Letterhead and a Language if you need to. The preview changes to match.
  3. Click Print, or click Download PDF.

You can also paste a link to a document into a message. It is sent as a plain link, without a card. To show the card, attach the document with the document button.

Attach a file from a message to a document

You can also attach a file that someone sent in Raven to a document.

  1. Point to the message with the file and click ⋯.
  2. Click Attach to document.
  3. Pick the Document Type and the Document.
  4. Click Attach.

The file stays on the message too. You need permission to change the document.

Messages on the document's timeline

Every message with a document card also shows on the document's timeline in Desk. People see it there only if they can read the document and the channel. See Send a Raven from Desk.

On the mobile app

Tap + in the message box, then tap Document. The steps after that are the same.

The + menu on the mobile app

On a phone, the print button opens the preview with a Download PDF button. There is no Print button.
