Push notifications

Push notifications are alerts that Raven sends to your computer or phone, even when Raven is not open. They are not the same as in-app notifications, which you see inside Raven. For those, see In-app notifications.

Turn on push notifications in a browser

  1. Click your photo at the bottom of the left rail.
  2. Click Enable Notifications.
  3. Allow notifications when the browser asks.

The menu under your photo

To stop them, click your photo again and click Disable Notifications.

Push notifications are turned on for each browser separately. Turn them on in each browser you use.

If you blocked notifications for your Raven site before, the browser does not ask again. Allow notifications for the site in the browser's settings, then click Enable Notifications again.

Turn on push notifications in a phone browser

On a phone, Raven shows its mobile layout.

  1. Tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Turn on Push notifications.
  3. Allow notifications when the phone asks.

On an iPhone or iPad, Safari sends push notifications only to web apps on the Home Screen. This needs iOS 16.4 or later. Add Raven to the Home Screen first:

  1. Open your Raven site in Safari.
  2. Tap the share button, then tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open Raven from the Home Screen.
  4. Turn on push notifications as above.

Turn on push notifications in the mobile app

The app asks to send notifications after you sign in. Allow it.

To turn them on or off later, tap Profile, then turn Push notifications on or off.

Which messages send a push notification

You get a push notification for:

  • Every message in your direct messages.
  • Every message in channels you are a member of, unless you mute the channel. See Mute a channel.
  • Every message in threads you are part of. These are threads you started or joined, threads on your messages, and threads where someone mentioned you.
  • A reminder you set on a message, when it is due.

The title of the notification says who sent the message and where. It says "mentioned you" when the message mentions you, and "replied" when it is a reply to your message. Click the notification to open the message.

You don't get a push notification for:

  • Your own messages.
  • Messages sent with Send without notification. This includes messages sent silently during quiet hours. See Quiet hours.
  • Any message in a muted channel, including mentions of you.
  • Messages in your direct message with yourself.

Your availability does not change push notifications. You still get them when your availability is Do not disturb.
