A thread is a side conversation on one message. Replies in a thread stay out of the main channel, so the channel stays easy to read. You can start a thread in a channel or in a direct message.
Start a thread
- Point to a message.
- Click the thread button in the bar at the top right of the message.

The thread opens next to the channel. Type your reply in its message box and press Enter.
You can also click ⋯ on the message, or right-click it, and then click Create thread.
You can only start a thread in a channel you are a member of. A message can have one thread. You can't start a thread inside a thread.
Who takes part in a thread
These people are added to a thread when it starts:
- The person who started it.
- The person who wrote the message.
- People mentioned in the message, if they are members of the channel.
People mentioned in a reply are added too, if they are members of the channel. Everyone in the thread gets push notifications for new replies. See Push notifications.
Reply in a thread
Under a message with a thread, Raven shows the photos of the people in it and the number of replies. Click it to open the thread.

If you are not in the thread, the message box shows You're not a member of this thread. Click Join to take part. You can only join a thread if you are a member of its channel.
To close the thread, click × at its top right, or press Esc.
Leave or delete a thread
Click ⋮ at the top of the thread.
- Leave thread stops your notifications for the thread. You can join it again later.
- Delete thread deletes the thread and all its replies, for everyone. The message it started from stays in the channel. Only the person who started the thread can delete it.

The Threads page
Click the speech bubble in the left rail to see your threads from every workspace. A count on the button shows how many threads have replies you haven't read.

- Participating lists the threads you take part in.
- Other lists threads in your channels that you don't take part in.
- Type in Search threads... to find a thread by its text.
- Pick a channel in Any Channel to see only that channel's threads.
- Turn on Unread only to show only threads with replies you haven't read.
Click a thread to open it on the right. To see the thread in its channel, click the arrow at the top of the thread. Its tooltip says Open in channel.
Threads in one channel
Click the channel name at the top of the channel, then click Threads. The panel lists every thread in the channel. Type in the search box to find one, and click a thread to open it.
In a direct message, click the person's name at the top, then click Threads.

On the mobile app
Tap Threads at the bottom of the screen. Tap Unread at the bottom right to show only threads with unread replies. Tap a thread to open it.
To start a thread, touch and hold a message, then tap Create thread. In an open thread, tap ⋮ for Go to channel, Leave thread and Delete thread.
