Stock Movement

A stock movement records stock that moves into a location, out of a location, or between locations. It is not linked to a customer or a supplier. For sales, use a Shipment. For purchases, use a Purchase Receipt.

Only items with Track Inventory can move stock. For the setup, see Introduction to Inventory.

Movement Types

The movement type tells Frappe Books which locations a row uses.

For a Material Issue or a Material Receipt, Frappe Books fills the location with the Default Location. In a Manufacture, give each raw material row only a From location and each finished goods row only a To location. The movement must have at least one row of each kind.

Create a Stock Movement

1. Click Inventory > Stock Movement in the sidebar.
2. Click New.
3. Select the Movement Type.
4. In Items, click Add row.
5. Select the Item. Frappe Books fills the Rate from the item.
6. Set the From location, the To location, or both, as the movement type needs.
7. Enter the Quantity.
8. Add a row for each of the other items.
9. Click Save.
10. Click Submit and click Yes.

On a phone, tap the menu button in the header, and then tap Inventory > Stock Movement. Fill in each row in the sheet that opens, and tap Done.

After you submit, you cannot edit the movement. See Save and Submit Documents.

Item Rows

The Item list shows only items with Track Inventory. Each quantity must be more than zero, and no rate can be negative. To see all the fields of a row, click the Edit row button at the end of the row.

In a Material Transfer, the Rate does not change the stock value. The stock comes into the To location at the FIFO value that it had at the From location. See Stock Valuation.

When their feature is on in the inventory settings, rows also have these fields:

• Batch: Each row of an item with Has Batch needs a batch. In a Material Receipt, if the item has a Batch Series, a row without a batch gets a new batch when you save.
• Serial Number: Enter one serial number for each unit, one on each line. In a Material Receipt, if the item has a Serial Number Series, Frappe Books adds the missing serial numbers when you save.
• Transfer Unit and Qty. in Transfer Unit: Frappe Books calculates the Quantity in the Stock Unit of the item.

When barcodes are on, type or scan a barcode in the Barcode field above the rows. Frappe Books adds a row for the item, or increases the quantity of its row. For more information, see Batches and Serial Number.

When you submit, each From location must have enough stock on the date of the movement. See Stock Quantity.

Ledger Entries

When you submit a stock movement, Frappe Books makes stock ledger entries. Each From location gets a negative entry, and each To location gets a positive entry. Frappe Books also posts the net change in the stock value between the Stock In Hand Acc. and the Stock Adjustment Acc. of the inventory settings. A Manufacture posts the difference between the value of the finished goods and the value of the raw materials. A Material Transfer makes no accounting entries, because the total stock value does not change.

To see the entries, click View > Accounting entries or View > Stock entries. On a phone, these are in the … menu in the header.

Cancel a Stock Movement

Only a Books Manager or a System Manager can delete a stock movement. To cancel, click the … button in the page header, and then click Cancel. Frappe Books removes the stock entries and reverses the accounting entries.

You cannot cancel a movement when its stock cannot go back. For example, you cannot cancel a Material Receipt after its stock left the location. Cancel the later entries first.

To correct a cancelled movement, click Create > Duplicate.
